This position paper argues that AI tools, if strategically adopted, can revolutionise the management of university education in rivers State by automating routine administrative functions, improving academic planning, optimizing resource allocation, and enhancing student support services. Drawing on Nigerian case studies and contextual realities, the paper presents evidence of AI applications in areas such as admissions, learning analytics, library automation, and quality assurance monitoring. It also addresses concerns about digital readiness, infrastructural gaps, and the risk of exacerbating inequality between well-funded and underfunded institutions. The position maintained is that AI adoption is not optional but a strategic imperative for universities in Rivers State to remain competitive, efficient, and aligned with Nigeria’s broader educational development goals.
