Multimedia Tools and Instructional Delivery of Courses by Accounting Educators in Higher Education Institutions in Rivers State

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between multimedia tools and instructional delivery of courses by accounting educators in higher education institutions in Rivers State. This study adopted the correlational research design. The design helps researchers to determine the relationship between two or more variables. The population of the study consisted of 31 accounting educators from the four (4) higher education institutions in Rivers State, comprising 9 accounting educators from Rivers State University, 5 accounting educators from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, 2 accounting educators from the University of Port Harcourt and 15 accounting educators from Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku. There was no sampling due to the manageable size of the population. Three research questions and three null hypotheses guided the study. Two self-structured questionnaires were the instruments for data collection. The instrument was face-validated by three experts, two from the Department of Business Education and one from Measurement and Evaluation. Cronbach's Alpha statistical tool via the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to determine the reliability coefficient of 0.79 was obtained which indicated a high level hence deemed suitable for this study. A total of 31 copies of the questionnaire were administered by the researchers, which were completely retrieved. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to answer the researcher's questions as well as the test of hypotheses one to three at 0.05 level of significance. Based on the analysis, the findings revealed that there is a strong negative relationship between multimedia tools and financial accounting, cost accounting and management accounting delivery by accounting educators in higher education institutions in Rivers State. It was recommended that institutional management should provide modern multimedia tools, train accounting educators regularly for effective utilization of multimedia tools and ensure regular power supply and internet network connectivity.
